WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE TITS ON THAT GUY?

DIFFERENCE IS SEX TOURISM - AMSTERDAM AND THAILAND

Please keep in mind that if you are deviant from way back, you've got my knowledge trumped. If you have any useful information to add to it, please stick it in the 'comments' section below.

For the rest of you who aren't going to be nitpicking at what I am writing, I wanted to lay down some of the differences between the sex tourism industries of both Amsterdam and the Netherlands - as well as some of the things that are the same.

Amsterdam: Prostitution is legal.
Thailand: Not legal but completely ignored by the authorities. Possibly because they realize that without it, several cities would be totally bereft of any influx of money.

A: Cost is about 50 Eur ($66 at the time of this writing).
T: Cost is about 1300 BHT ($31). Note, this includes 'bar fee' for taking a bar girl out of the bar. Without that, it is roughly 1000 BHT ($31).

A: It's a job that women seem to be ashamed to do - I'm basing this on the fact that if you take pictures, they will smash your camera or throw it in the river.
T: Although you can't take pictures in the 'go go' bars, you can take pictures of many other things. (Girls all over the place - I'm not sure which you can and can't take pictures of. Since I am mainly out at night, I've been unable to take a lot of pictures.) The girls will pose, smile and wave. Culturally, there doesn't seem to be any real shame in selling your pussy/ass. The line between wife/girlfriend/one night stand and prostitute seems blurry at best.

A: It's a job. My guess is usually part time. The women can be from many walks of life - married, single, student, whatever.
T: The goal seems to be to score a rich man and turn from bar girl (or go go dancer or streetwalker) into 'girlfriend' and perhaps 'wife'. There is a book called "Money Still Number 1" that deals with the attitudes here. Personally, I'd like to get hold of a copy (preferably for free) and read it. The title seems to give some indication of what it's about...

There are probably a lot more differences. These are what I was able to pick up within my first couple days here. It seems like there is a lot more 'interesting' stuff' that happens in Thailand as opposed to Amsterdam - which confuses me as to why people normally think of Amsterdam as the sex capital.

Since I can't speak Thai and the Thai's I've run into have miserable levels of English (my German is much better) I've been talking primarily to expats from all over the world who have settled here. But I am keeping my eyes open for any Thais that I can communicate with!

An expat named David said that he's boiled down the advice he gives 'newbies' to this area into two simple questions: a) Am I happy? b) Can I afford it?

In listening to the expats, I've heard amazing stories about people who get daily blow jobs from girls who had the girls get tongue piercings and have their teeth filed down a bit so they weren't so sharp.

COSTS

I negotiated the laundry bill with a lady. Her normal rate for a shirt was 10 BHT. I told her I didn't want it ironed, just washed, dried and stuffed into a bag. Big pieces done in this manner were 5 BHT, small for 3 BHT. I negotiated 100 mixed pieces for 4 BHT each (400 BHT total). We'll see how that works out.

MISCELLANEOUS

I broke down and bought a guide "Money Number One" for Thailand. Good information in it. Stuff I already knew plus more stuff. It is a 'read before going' book for anyone wanting to go to Thailand.

I am going to go back through it and put up some things that interested me from the book. Having read it all, I've got to say that I am not surprised with the information given. Basically, it comes down to this. The man may love the girl, she loves his money and will spend it. If he keeps his financial control away from her and never lets on to just how much he has - but he is always making more than she can spend, it will be happy for both of them. If not, she will take what she can get and go back to her Thai husband/boyfriend/lover which she may have had the entire time. Westerners may consider this pretty mercenary but how many women even in the USA don't carefully consider a man's financial status before getting married to him? The ones with actual prospects (read as 'youth and beauty') I'd say at least 40% do - and the rest lie about it not being important. The ones with less prospects (overweight and plain) will have correspondingly lower standards. So, don't judge the Thai too harshly. If you aren't stupid (which many men who think with their penis are) you know what they're about here.

I would recommend for anyone wanting to ever come to Thailand - get that book and read it. For people who haven't traveled before (or lived in Asia) it is sure to be an eye opener. Plus, it is entertaining as well.

On rent, I am currently paying $6.42/day rent. Everything aside from electricity is included and that might be $1 a day if I get friendly with my AC. Which I am. I just found out that in addition, this includes daily maid service to clean my room.

Wow.
